Dear Hip-Hop!

I met this girl when I was 10years old, and what I loved most, she had so much soul, she was old school and I was just a shorty, never knew throughout my life she would be there for me…. I USED TO LOVE H.E.R - Common Sense

Dear Hip Hop,

Where have you been? There were rumors on the streets that someone bodied you, I know that can’t be true, if so we never gave our condolences. Remember the times we had together, if only we had the time to go down memory lane with you. We used to argue about who loved you more, and who repped you better. I even remember fighting with my girl because she said that I spent most of my time with you. Only if she knew in a few years she would be in love with you too. I used to think that you were all mine, and no one else had a right to be close to you, our relationship was like a hustler that got his supply straight from Columbia, it was that potent. I can still remember the day we met, you were with a few of the older kids from my neighborhood in the park, you couldn’t stay still for shit, just all over the place, on the walls, on the radio, showing us how to dress, dance and even teaching a few how to talk.

You were definitely the most popular kid in school man, if it was a one on one or with a group; you always had a way to Move the Crowd. I still can’t believe I came to you when ol girl played me out. I told you I Need Love, and you told me don’t worry soon enough she’ll catch the Vapors.  well I don’t know if I told you, but me and her never did get back together, she told me, I can get with This or That. Of course I choose you bro; you know we were taught to never go against the grain. Then one day I came home from school and had the shock of my life. I saw my best friend on TV. We was hype at 1st, just to see one of us make it. Then we thought about it… you’re not just ours anymore. Now anyone with a cable connection can have a piece of you. You never even said goodbye, this is your home, so we figured you would be right back. You taught the lessons about loyalty, we put the mic down for 1 second and you jetted. Why would you wanna leave anyway? We got 5 boroughs that’s thorough, not to mention across the bridge. Between us and Jersey you was straight!

2-turntables-and-a-mic

I heard for a while you was in Cali, so that’s where you been hiding huh? The hell with the stoops and the block, now you with the Malibu bay breeze. They said, once and a while you ask about what’s going on back home? Short and sweet, same ol’ partying and busllshit. No doubt we were a lil hurt when you left, but all thoroughbreds deserve to enjoy life and spread their wings. Back home we learned 2 major lessons, protect ya neck, and learn to live with regrets. Everybody that’s somebody still got love for you. We still get together and talk about the latest on you. So what you up to next? How did you enjoy your stay when in the Midwest? The South is a little slower, but we knew they couldn’t wait to get in your ear. To be honest though, you’ll be comfortable; there are a lot of good dudes down there.

I can’t lie, up top we proud of you, you basically raised us. You watched us go from block parties in the Bronx to upscale dinners in SoHo. Remember you used to ride the train with us? Well we all drive Maybach’s now. Yea we are doing alright but it wouldn’t hurt for you to come back home every now and then. You left when B.I.G left right? Or did you stay around a little longer? That was a hard time for us, I’m sure you was there, cause I remember crying on somebody’s shoulder.

I could never figure out how you did it, you didn’t always stay around but you never let us down. We still get hype off the old times we had with you. Trust me, when we reminisce it goes on for hours. Our kids even know about you. We talked a little shit but you have to realize we may be your toughest credits, but we’re also your biggest supporters.

It’s been years, and we see there’s no place on the map you’re not welcome to lay your hat… 1question, do you miss home?

1 luv,

NY Rap!
